What we left out — and why
Most baby products aren't as gentle as they seem.
Here's what you'll find in nearly every baby cream, lotion, and wipe on the shelf — what those ingredients are actually doing, and why we won't put them in ours.
Common flagged ingredients
Fragrance
The #1 cause of skin irritation and allergic reactions in infants.
The word "fragrance" is a legal loophole that can hide hundreds of undisclosed chemicals. Infant skin is 30% thinner than adult skin and absorbs far more per pound of body weight. What causes a mild reaction in an adult can trigger significant irritation in a newborn.
Parabens
Preservatives linked to hormone disruption. Banned in the EU for baby products.
Parabens mimic estrogen in the body and have been detected in breast tumor tissue. They're used because they're cheap and effective at extending shelf life. We don't need them because our formula contains no water — nothing for bacteria to grow in.
Harsh Detergents (SLS/SLES)
Strip delicate skin, leaving babies prone to rashes and chronic dryness.
Sulfates destroy the lipid barrier — the same barrier that keeps moisture in and irritants out. On adult skin this causes dryness and tightness. On infant skin, which is still developing its barrier function, the damage is more significant and slower to recover.
Formaldehyde Releasers
Preservatives still found in baby lotions and wipes that slowly release carcinogens.
Ingredients like DMDM hydantoin and quaternium-15 are classified as formaldehyde releasers by the FDA. They're legal in baby products in the U.S. The EU has restricted several of them. They appear under names most parents would never recognize on a label.
What repeated exposure does over time
Increased Sensitivity
Baby skin is 30% thinner than adult skin, making it more vulnerable to irritation. Early and repeated exposure to irritants can prime the immune system to react more aggressively — setting a pattern that persists into childhood.
Barrier Damage
Early disruption of the skin barrier is directly linked to eczema, chronic dryness, and flare-ups later in childhood. A baby's barrier is still developing — what you put on it in the first months matters more than most parents realize.
Respiratory Concerns
Synthetic fragrance isn't just a skin irritant. Multiple studies link it to wheezing and asthma development in infants. Babies breathe faster than adults and spend more time close to caregivers applying scented products — the exposure adds up.
Cumulative Toxin Load
Babies absorb more per pound of body weight than adults, and their developing organs are less equipped to process and eliminate chemicals. Small exposures from multiple products add up to a cumulative load that matters more in infancy than at any other stage of life.
Your baby's skin is different. The formula should be too.
Designed for safety from day one.
- Tallow matches the fat composition of a baby's own skin — it absorbs because their body already recognizes it, not because it's been formulated to penetrate.
- No honey, no fragrance — honey is a documented allergen and botulism risk for infants under one. Fragrance triggers. We removed both deliberately.
- No water means no preservatives — every ingredient in this jar is doing something for your baby's skin. Nothing exists just to keep the formula from spoiling.
From flare-ups to comfort.
What parents notice when they choose Baby Whip.
- Diaper rash calms overnight. Most parents report skin looking visibly soothed by morning.
- Dry patches and rough spots give way to soft, resilient skin that holds moisture through the day.
- You stop second-guessing what's on their skin. Four ingredients you can look up. Nothing hidden.
How to use
Less than you think. Every time.
-
1
Clean, dry skin
After bath or diaper change. Dry skin absorbs it fully and helps it go further.
-
2
Tiny amount, warm your palms
Baby skin is thin — a little covers a lot. Warm it briefly between your palms first.
-
3
Apply and press gently
Smooth over wherever skin needs it — diaper area, dry patches, anywhere irritated.
-
4
Give it a moment
It absorbs slower than lotion. That's the point. Get them dressed and you're done.
Good to know
- For diaper rash, apply a slightly thicker layer at each change. Most parents see improvement by the next morning.
- For eczema-prone skin, use after every bath consistently. Results build over weeks, not days.
- Safe from day one. No honey, no fragrance — safe for newborns from birth.
- One jar lasts 1-2 months with daily use on a baby. Less than $1 a day.
Benefits of Daily Use
Protects Delicate Skin
Tallow and beeswax create a breathable layer that seals moisture in and keeps irritants out. Not a synthetic film — a barrier that works with baby's skin, not over it.
Pure & Minimalist Care
Four ingredients. No fragrance, no honey, no synthetic preservatives. Everything in the jar is there because it does something. Nothing else made the cut.
Deep, Lasting Hydration
Tallow's fat profile is the closest thing in nature to a baby's own skin sebum. It absorbs without sitting on the surface, which means moisture stays where it's needed through sleep, play, and the next diaper change.
Calms & Heals Naturally
Jojoba's natural anti-inflammatory properties paired with tallow's vitamins A and D calm irritated, rashy skin. Most parents report diaper rash visibly improved by the next morning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Baby Whip have any fragrance?
No, our Baby Whip is completely fragrance-free. We’ve removed all fragrances to ensure it’s safe for sensitive baby skin, making it gentle enough for everyday use without the risk of irritation.
We don't use masking agents — synthetic chemicals some brands add to make products smell neutral. No fragrance means no fragrance, nothing added to cover anything else.
Is this safe for newborns?
Yes. The formula contains no honey, no fragrance, no lanolin, and no synthetic preservatives — the four most common irritants in baby skincare. It's been used on newborn skin from day one. As with any new product, a small patch test is always a good idea.
Why no honey?
Honey is a common allergen and carries a risk of infant botulism for babies under one year old. It's also not necessary for skin barrier function. We removed it so Baby Whip is safe from birth, not just for toddlers.
Does the Baby Whip work on diaper rash?
Yes, our Baby Whip works incredibly well on diaper rash. Most parents report that diaper rash disappears overnight after using it. Its all-natural, gentle formula provides deep moisture and soothing relief for irritated skin, making it an excellent choice for calming and healing diaper rash quickly and effectively.
Is it safe for sensitive baby skin?
Yes, our baby whip is specifically formulated for the delicate and sensitive skin of babies. We have removed honey and all fragrance to ensure it is completely safe for your little one. The product is made with pure, natural ingredients that nourish and protect without causing irritation. Its gentle formulation helps soothe and moisturize dry, sensitive baby skin, making it ideal for daily use or for calming irritated areas.
We always recommend a small patch test before full application on newborn skin.
Why does my baby whip sometimes feel grainy?
Our body butter is made with all-natural ingredients and is free from synthetic chemicals or preservatives. The grainy texture you occasionally feel is perfectly normal and happens because the natural fats in the tallow can crystallize at different rates and sizes during temperature changes.
We take great care during our melting and formulation process to minimize this effect, but sometimes it’s unavoidable due to the nature of the ingredients and their sensitivity to temperature changes.
If you notice a grainy texture, simply warm the body butter in your hands before applying. It will melt beautifully, absorbing into your skin to provide the same deep hydration and nourishment.
This texture is a sign of a pure formula — no synthetic stabilizers.
Can I use this on myself too?
Yes. The same formula is available in our adult body butters with the addition of honey and optional natural scents. Some parents use Baby Whip themselves, particularly those with reactive or sensitive skin who want the most minimal formula possible.
