Ivory balm on muslin baby cloth — alcohol-free baby-safe skincare

Why We Don’t Use Alcohol in Our Skincare (Especially in Baby Products)

Alcohol might sound like something that doesn't belong in skincare—but if you've ever flipped over the label of a "natural" lotion or baby cream, you've probably seen it listed in the first few ingredients.

At Tau Tau Skin, we never use drying alcohols in any of our products—and we especially never include them in anything made for babies.

Here's why alcohol doesn't belong on your skin (or your baby's), and what we use instead.

1. Alcohol Dries Out the Skin—Even in 'Moisturizers'

The irony? A lot of products that claim to hydrate your skin actually contain drying alcohols like ethanol, denatured alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol.

These are often used to make a formula feel light, fast-absorbing, or "refreshing." But here's the tradeoff: they evaporate quickly, pulling moisture out of your skin as they go. Over time, this leads to:

  • Increased dryness and flaking

  • A tight, stripped feeling

  • Skin that feels more easily irritated

For delicate or compromised skin—especially in babies—this is the last thing you want.

2. Alcohol Has No Business in Baby Skincare

Babies have thinner, more permeable skin than adults. Their skin barrier isn't fully developed, making them more easily bothered by harsh ingredients.

Unfortunately, many mainstream baby lotions and creams still include alcohol—sometimes hidden under names like cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, or benzyl alcohol. Even "organic" baby brands often use alcohol to make their products absorb quickly or stay shelf-stable.

We believe that's unacceptable.

That's why our Baby Whip is completely free from alcohol, fragrance, and water. It's made with only the most gentle, skin-supportive ingredients:

✔ Grass-fed tallow
✔ Jojoba oil
✔ Olive oil
✔ A minimal amount of beeswax for protection

That's it. No fillers. No shortcuts. No alcohol—ever.

3. Alcohol Can Leave Skin Feeling Stripped

The skin's barrier is your body's first defense—it holds in moisture and keeps out irritants and allergens.

Alcohol can leave that barrier feeling stripped, which is often when skin feels:

  • A red or blotchy look

  • A tight, dry feeling

  • Easily irritated skin

  • Stinging or burning

If your skin stings after applying a lotion, alcohol is often the reason. And if your baby is reacting to a product meant to soothe their skin, it's worth checking the ingredient list.

Our tallow-based balms are made to nourish and comfort skin, not strip it.

4. We Choose Whole Ingredients That Nourish—Not Strip

Tallow, jojoba oil, and beeswax don't just feel good on the skin—they feed the skin with essential fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Unlike alcohol, these ingredients:

  • Don't evaporate off your skin

  • Don't disrupt pH balance

  • Don't cause long-term dryness

  • Are the kind of nourishing fats skin recognizes

You won't find alcohol in our Face Balm, our Body Butters, or our Baby Whip—because we formulate for skin that's sensitive, reactive, and real.

The Bottom Line

Alcohol has no place in skincare for sensitive, dry, or developing skin—especially baby skin. It strips. It stings. It dries. And it works against the very things that keep skin soft and comfortable.

At Tau Tau Skin, we believe in skincare that supports, not sabotages. That's why our Baby Whip is 100% alcohol-free, filler-free, and fragrance-free—just real, nutrient-dense comfort.
