Jen Popovich is the co-founder and creative director of Tau Tau Skin. She leads brand visual identity, packaging design, ingredient research, and customer experience — and partners with her husband Joe on every product decision the brand makes.

Jen is an editorial photographer by trade. The eye for composition, light, texture, and emotion she developed behind a camera shapes how every Tau Tau Skin product is photographed, packaged, and presented. The brand's signature metal tins, the soft natural-light product photography, the considered restraint of the brand's visual world — these come from Jen's photographic instincts applied to a different medium.

Why Tau Tau Skin Exists

The brand began with a personal need. While pregnant in 2023, Jen searched for a clean, pregnancy-safe skincare line she could actually trust — and couldn't find one. Every option she examined contained synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrance, alcohol, or undisclosed endocrine disruptors. Even products labeled "natural" or "organic" routinely included ingredients her research flagged as questionable during pregnancy.

Rather than settle for the cleanest of bad options, she and Joe started formulating their own from their kitchen in Arizona. The earliest batches were for Jen herself during her pregnancy, and then for the baby. Those same formulations — refined, batched, and packaged but otherwise unchanged — are what Tau Tau Skin sells today. Every customer is using a product that was originally made for someone the founders love.

Ingredient Research and Pregnancy Safety

Jen leads ongoing ingredient research for Tau Tau Skin, with particular focus on what's safe during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and infancy. Her research informs which ingredients enter the brand's formulations — and just as importantly, which never do. The brand's commitment to a short, food-grade ingredient list grounded in pregnancy and breastfeeding safety is the direct result of the research she leads.

The brand's exclusion list (no formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no alcohol, no water, no seed oils, no parabens, no phthalates, no known endocrine disruptors) is updated as new research emerges. Jen reviews and approves every ingredient addition or substitution before it goes into production.

Brand Visual Identity

Beyond ingredient research, Jen shapes the brand's full creative direction: photography, packaging, website design, copy tone, customer communication. The discipline of editorial photography — knowing what to leave out, what to emphasize, how to let the subject do the work — runs through every brand decision she makes. Tau Tau Skin looks the way it looks because Jen's eye chooses every detail.
